This report provides Members with information relating to operational incidents of interest. This has been a busy operational period, therefore the report details only the larger deployments or more complex incidents attended. As a result, some incidents that Members have been made aware of locally, may not form part of the report.

At 14:30 hours on Saturday 31 May 2025, eight fire engines, the drone and two aerial ladder platforms from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) attended a fire on Holmes Street, Burnley. The incident involved a derelict building measuring approximately thirty-five metres by twenty-five metres consisting of five floors, with the fourth and fifth floors well alight and partial building collapse. Firefighters used two hose reels jets, two ground monitors and the aerial ladder platforms. Crews remained on scene for several days working with partner agencies.

At 12:02 hours on Thursday 5 June 2025 four fire engines from Hornby, Carnforth, Lancaster and Bolton le Sands attended Borwick Road, Arkholme. The fire involved a quantity of hay within barn. The barn contained five hundred new bales of hay and one hundred old bales. Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one main jet and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire with the farmer assisting with removal of hay using a tractor on site. Crews in attendance for five hours and thirty minutes.

At 05:37 hours on 18 June 2025, six fire engines from Blackpool, Bispham, Preesall, Fleetwood and South Shore fire stations along with the air unit attended a commercial building on Moss Side Lane, Stalmine-with-Staynall. Firefighters extinguished the fire involving animal pens in a farm outbuilding using two hose reel jets, four breathing apparatus, two thermal imaging cameras. One casualty suffering from burns to face was assessed by fire service personnel and has been conveyed to hospital by ambulance. Fire crews remained on scene for a number of hours.

At 14:40 hours on 21 June 2025, eight fire engines, one aerial ladder platform and a water tower along with several other special appliances attended a commercial building fire on Kent road, Blackpool. On arrival fire service personnel dealt with a fire involving a two-storey derelict working mens club, four breathing apparatus, three jets, one 10.5 metre ladder and a water tower were used. LFRS remained in attendance for 6 hours.

At 10:09 hours on 23 June 2025, two fire engines from Bolton-le-Sands and Carnforth and the Urban Search and Rescue Team attended the rescue of a person in a major entrapment on Sand Lane, Warton. The casualty was trapped by the hand in tractor machinery and was extricated by fire service personnel. The casualty was treated by helimed paramedics at the scene. Crews were in attendance for three hours.

At 09:37 on 13 July 2025 eight fire appliances and special appliances attended a fire which involved a warehouse on White Lund industrial estate in Morecambe. The building was 70m x 50m and contained approximately 300 cylinders containing inert gas. The Fire service remained in attendance for several days damping down.

At 08:29 hours on 22 July 2025 five fire engines from Preston, Chorley, Bacup and Rawtenstall attended a road traffic collision on Rochdale Road, Bacup. On arrival the incident was involving a bus and seven parked cars. Fire service crews worked alongside North West Ambulance Service and other agencies to ensure the scene was made safe and to bring the incident to a close. Fire Service were in attendance two hours and forty five minutes.

At 12:59 hours on 22 July 2025 five fire engines and several specialist appliances including Urban Search and Rescue and a Hazardous Materials Unit from Burnley was called to Whalley New Road, Blackburn to a road traffic collision involving a heavy goods vehicle. On arrival fire service personnel dealt with an overturned articulated lorry and a 300-litre diesel spillage using an environmental grab pack and a hazardous materials unit. One casualty was left in care of ambulance. Fire Service were in attendance for approximately two hours.

At 19:27 on 31 July 2025, six fire engines from LFRS and the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Preston responded to a domestic building fire on Normoss Avenue, Blackpool. The fire involved a detached timber framed domestic property and was extinguished using six breathing apparatus and three hose reels. One casualty was conveyed to hospital for precautionary checks for smoke inhalation. Fire crews remained in attendance for several hours.

At 03:23 hours on 2 August 2025 six fire engines, the drone, command unit and water bowser from LFRS attended Dawson Lane Whittle-le-Woods. The fire, involved one hundred metres by seventy-five metres of landfill site. Firefighters used handheld jets and ground monitors during the incident. Crews remained in attendance working with site staff for over 12 hours.

Potential impact on local environment in relation to operational incidents. Significant incidents benefit from the attendance of specialist water towers and the hazardous materials unit both of which have positive impacts on firefighting operations and reduce environmental impacts.
